Coast Guard Festival

With a legacy that goes back 87 years, the annual Grand Haven Coast Guard Festival offers many activities for the whole family to enjoy. Visitors come from all over to show their appreciation for the diligent service provided by members of the United States Coast Guard. This multi-day festival is where you’ll find everything from live music to carnival rides.

Free ship tours are available every day. Take a tour of the Coast Guard Cutters Mackinaw, Biscayne Bay, Alder and Katmai Bay. On Monday, August 1st, you can watch from the waterfront as the ships sail into Grand Haven.

Monday through Wednesday from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and Thursday through Saturday there are two-hour tours at 10:00 a.m., 1:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. Children must be accompanied by adults at all times while on one of these tours.

On Sunday, July 31, from 7:30am to 2:30 p.m. the festival will host a car show with a DJ, trophies and door prizes.

Kid’s Day takes place Tuesday, August 2, from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. This is where your children can enjoy games, storytelling, face painting, arts & crafts and more. This event is expected to draw over 3,000 kids to Mulligana’s Hollow.

Later that evening, there will be a free street dance held on Washington Street from 8:30 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. Featuring the Sea Cruisers, this event showcases a variety of music from the 50s, 60s, 70s and 80s.

Tuesday is also the first day when you can enjoy carnival rides and midway games from 6:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. Wednesday through Friday, the carnival is in operation from 2:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. Saturday you can enjoy the carnival from 12:00 p.m. 1:00 a.m. Unlimited rides are available with the purchase of a $20 wristband.

The Grand Parade takes place Saturday, August 6, at 11:45 am. This two-hour parade draws nearly 100,000 spectators and features marching bands, military units, novelty units and dignitaries. The festival closes on that night with fireworks over the waterfront.
